Our North-East Navigation department is a decentralised department of the ministry for ecology, sustainable development, ... (MEDDTL). We have responsibility for two main types of mission
- 1. Made available to the public authority Voies Navigables de France (VNF - Inland Waterways of France) for the overall management of waterways of North-Eastern France (operation, maintenance, restoration and modernisation, promotion and development), we therefore make up the Direction Interrégionale du Nord-Est (DIR-NE – North-East Inter-regional Department) of VNF,
- 2. We are also responsible, on behalf of the French government, for missions relating to waterway and fishing police and waterway transport police. These regulatory missions are conducted under the authority of the “county” prefects in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Our headquarters are in Nancy.
The geographical area we cover encompasses three regions: Lorraine (the Moselle, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse and Vosges counties), Champagne-Ardenne (the Ardennes and Marne counties) and Franche-Comté (county of Haute-Saône).
